Elizabeth Stevens is a poet, fiction writer, and visual artist whose work has been featured in half a dozen Brickhouse Book works. All of her written works include illustrations of her own creation.

AWP Conference and Bookfair

“The Uppity Blind Girl Poems” author Kathi Wolfe and BrickHouse Books Poetry Editor Doritt Carroll will be making a special appearence at the AWP Conference and Bookfair February 8-11, 2017.  In the Split the Rock Poetry session, both authors will do a reading from their respective works.


Meet BrickHouse Books’ Latest Addition From Ann Bracken

On February 24th, 2017 at Zu Coffee,  author Ann Braken will present her latest work, “No Barking in the Hallways.”  The launch reading will occur at 6:30pm and copies of the work will be available for purchase.

Ann Braken will also be the featured reader at the Zed’s Cafe in Silver Springs on April 7th, 2017, The reading will take place from 6-8pm and is free to the public.

More Shows at Kensington Row…

Near Kensington, Maryland on Wednesday, December 7th? Come visit the Kensington Row BookShop at 7pm for a night of poetry with authors Judith McCombs and Richard Peabody.

McCombs and Peabody are only the latest in authors to share their voice at Kensington Row’s Poetry series, featuring local authors the last Wednesday of the month running through the end of October, 2017.

On January 25th, 2017, Federal Poets Donald Illrich, John Monagle, and more will be reading at Kensington Row at 7pm.

All poetry readings are free and open to the public. Open readings will follow the main readers.

October 30 (2:00pm)  Make sure to check out the latest poetry reading by the Brickhouse Books acclaimed author of “Buried in the Minds Backyard!”


 Summer Highlights

July 23 (1:30-3:30 pm) – A Poetry Extravaganza – Poems will be read by a diverse spectrum of poets at George Washington University’s Estelle & Melvin Gelman Library. There will also be a music demonstration “On Synchronization Of Poetry Imagery”by Wing-chi Chan. The event will be followed by a reception. For more information, see our calendar below.

August 4 (7-9pm) – Cracks in the Road – An open mic for people of color & allies responding to recent acts by law enforcement. Read your own work or the work of others, sing, or support by listening. Sign up begins at 6:30 pm. Co-hosted by Regie Cabico, Doritt Carroll, and Teri Cross Davis.

August 5 (6-9pm) – Zed’s August Open Mic – This month’s open mic will feature Kathi Wolfe as the opening reader and former featured reader Cort (CL) Bledsoe as an MC. Bring some of your own work to read after the features or just stop by and listen.
