New Poets Series

This particular division of BHB is still devoted to the publication of first books by promising poets who have never had a collection of poems of over 30 pages published. Please note that chapbooks do not disqualify poets from being “new” but full length books do, whether published or not. Chapbooks are 42 pages or fewer. Books are 43 to 200 pages.

Submitting to NPS is different from that of its parent press, BrickHouse.

Submission Requirements:

  • 42-80 page manuscript of original poetry
  • $10 reading fee
  • S.A.S.E.

Please understand that we receive many submissions for NPS, and the staff offers comments on most. Therefore, it may take up to 6 months to receive a reply and your manuscript.

For further information on how to submit, see the Submissions page.

  1. Dear Brickhouse Books Editors and Director Harriss,

Thank you so much for your detailed reactions to my manuscript, THAT UNCHARTED TERRAIN, which was submitted to THE NEW POETS SERIES. Your comments are helpful and give me both ideas for changes to poems and critiques to push back against when my goal for a poem, especially any of the couplet poems, is different from that implied in the suggested changes. Either way, your comments are invaluable. They give me much about which to think and with which to work.

I appreciate your caring, insightful review of my work.

    • Thank you! BhB is very grateful for this positive response, which I (Clarinda Harriss) blush to admit I didn’t read till mid-2017. I am mending my ways with the encouragement of our brilliant new online editor, Elizabeth Tybush.
